What is NSS Day?

Every year on September 24, National Service Scheme (NSS) day is celebrated in India. NSS is a voluntary organization for young people in colleges, universities, and institutions at the +2 level in many provinces. The program was launched in 1969 and aims to improve the student's personality through community service. The program was launched on 24 September 1969 by Dr. V.K. R.V. Rao, then Minister of Education. The National Service Scheme (NSS) adds jobs to the Indian higher education system to allow students to improve their personalities by offering community services while studying.

After the country gained independence, the University Grants Commission, led by S. Radhakrishnan, recommended the introduction of national volunteer work in educational institutions. The government in 1952 emphasized the need for social and labor assistance for Indian students. And in 1958, Jawaharlal Nehru in a letter to prime ministers viewed the concept of social service as a requirement for graduation. Nehru has instructed the Department of Education to develop an appropriate national service delivery system for educational institutions. In May 1969, a student representative conference was organized by the Department of Education and the UGC also unanimously agreed that the national labor system could be a tool for national unification. Later, the university and university student representative camp was completed on June 7, 1969. KK Gupta of Delhi University was announced as the first volunteer. The program was officially launched on September 24, 1969.

Grades at Nakusp Secondary School raise $ 10,000 from bottle drive.

Students at Nakusp Secondary School (NSS) raised about $ 10,000 during a bottle they were holding outside a school parking lot on Saturday, September 20.The 24 students and their parents organized thousands of donated bottles from up to ten local businesses. A total of 300 bags ended up full of bottles.Andrea Coates, a volunteer for the event, said arrangements had been made with Chasers Bottle Depot in Vernon to collect bottles at the right price. The depot has already picked up several bottles and will present a check to the NSS grads after you have finished counting them. The money raised will be used to cover the expenses of the student graduation event next summer.

The grad drive bottle looked different from the driver years ago because of the COVID-19.

“We all had to wear gloves and masks to reduce the risk of infection. We also make sure to stay away from the event, ”said Andrea Coates.“Since all the graduates are studying together this year in one study group, we did not have to travel far. We just wanted to take safety precautions. ”People end up working between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. filter all bottles. Some of the parents also organized a hot dog lunch to encourage everyone to continue working in the afternoon.

"This was a great opportunity for our grad class to come together and work as a team," said Coates.“They were amazing and I was shocked by their hard work. They were all optimistic and high and no one complained about doing all the work. This was a great way to start the year. ”Students will have a sandbag fundraiser in October and a poinsettia fundraiser in November to help raise more money for their graduation ceremony.

Richelle Coates and Leah Gilliland also helped make this year's bottle a reality.LEARN MORE: Nakusp Secondary School progresses with grade transformation event@connortrembleyconnor.trembley @ castlegarnews.comWe love it on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
